Optimizing Upsell and Cross-sell Strategies

Learn how to create custom relationships between products and collections to enhance your upsell and cross-sell recommendations.

Upsell and Cross-sell Recommendations

Adding Upsell and Cross-sell recommendation boxes to your store is an effective way to enhance customer engagement and increase revenue. These recommendations can be configured using either manually selected collections or individual products, offering personalized suggestions to your shoppers.

Important Notes:


LimeSpot Customers: If you’re already using LimeSpot Personalizer, your existing Upsell and Cross-sell settings are automatically imported into the Zesty Checkout app. You can start using them right away.


Global Settings: The Upsell and Cross-sell settings are global and will apply to all LimeSpot apps on your store, including the LimeSpot Personalizer and Zesty Checkout apps.

Getting Started

To configure your Upsell and Cross-sell settings:

  1. Navigate to the Zesty Checkout & Post-purchase Upsells App.

  2. Click on the Upsell and Cross-sell section in the left-hand menu.

Tip: We recommend starting with Collection-level Upsell and Cross-sell settings before moving on to individual products. This approach ensures that all products within those collections have relevant Upsell and Cross-sell options.

Once collections are configured, your can refine their strategy by adding more specific upsell/cross-sell rules for individual products, allowing for more targeted recommendations.

Setting Up Upsell and Cross-sell Recommendations at the Collection Level

  1. In the Upsell & Cross-sell section, select Specific Collection as your Reference.

  2. Click Browse to view your list of Collections.

  3. Select the Collection(s) you want to create Upsell or Cross-sell relationships for.

  4. Browse and select the Collection(s) you want to set as Upsell or Cross-sell options.

  5. Use the Actions button to toggle between Upsell or Cross-sell or to remove a relationship altogether.

  6. Click Save to apply your settings.

Example: If you set a Cycling collection with Cross-sell relationships to Baseball, Yoga, and Football, the Cross-sell recommendation box for products in the Cycling collection will feature popular items from the Baseball, Yoga, and Football collections, in that order.

Setting Up Upsell and Cross-sell Recommendations for Individual Products

To refine your strategy further, you can set specific Upsell and Cross-sell rules for individual products. The process is similar to the Collection setup:

  1. In the Upsell & Cross-sell section, select Specific Product as your Reference.

  2. Click Browse to view your list of Products.

  3. Select the Product(s) you want to create Upsell or Cross-sell relationships for.

  4. Browse and select the Product(s) you want to set as Upsell or Cross-sell options.

  5. Use the Actions button to toggle between Upsell or Cross-sell or to remove a relationship altogether.

  6. Click Save to apply your settings.

Tip: For maximum efficiency, prioritize your Upsell and Cross-sell setup by starting with your most popular products, followed by trending items, new arrivals, and then the rest of your catalog.

Box Settings (optional)

To further personalize your Upsell and Cross-sell recommendations, you can customize the titles for each recommendation box (Upsell, Cross-sell, and Related Items).

  1. Navigate to the Box Settings section.

  2. Set a title for your Upsell, Cross-sell, or Related Items box.

  3. Adjust the Related Item box settings as needed.

Note: Box settings can be applied to both Reference Collections and individual Products. When applied to a Reference Collection, the settings will affect all products within that specific collection.
