Smart Images let you show different images to different shoppers in the same place, such as a returning-customer hero banner, a VIP sale tile or a region-specific promo. Your current image stays as the default for everyone else. When Studio detects them, you can also change the heading, subheading, button text and button link around the image.
Availability
Plan: Growth Agents plan · Platform: SHOPLINE · Needs at least one audience segment
Included in the Growth Agents plan. If your plan doesn't include it, Studio shows Smart Image is not included in your plan with a Contact Sales button.
Note
Older LimeSpot help articles call these "Image Campaigns". In email widgets, choose Image to reuse a Smart Image.
Before you start
Create the audience segments you want to target, such as returning customers or shoppers from one country. See Create audience segments.
Create a Smart Image
In Studio, click the image you want to personalize. The Smart Image window opens.
Optional: type a name in the title field at the top. It's shown in your lists and in Analytics.
The Default Image card shows your current image, marked "Shown to all visitors". This is what shoppers see when no variant matches.
Under Personalized Variants, click Add New Variant.
The first time you add a variant to an image, Studio scans the section. It frames the section and labels the parts it found, such as HEADING, SUBHEADING, CTA and IMAGE. Click Looks Good to continue, or No. I Need Help to stop.
The Image Variant drawer opens. Enter a Variant Title and choose Audience Segments (required).
Under Images, on the Desktop tab (required), click Click to add image, then Upload image or Image library. Add Tablet and Mobile images if you want different crops.
Under Content, change the Heading, Subheading, Button Text or Button URL if Studio found them. Leave a field empty to keep the original.
The canvas updates as you edit. Close the drawer to return to the variant list.
Click Save, then Publish.
Add more variants with Add New Variant. Later variants open the drawer directly, without a new scan. Each variant card shows its thumbnails, title, audience chips and the content you changed.
Tip
Use the same image size and aspect ratio as your original so the layout doesn't jump. Add a Mobile image when your desktop banner has text that would be too small on a phone.
Check each variant
Click Preview as anyone in the top bar.
Pick a segment under Preview as audience. The canvas shows that segment's variant, even before you publish.
When you're done, click ✕ on the audience chip (Clear audience preview).
What shoppers see
Shoppers in a variant's audience see its image and text when the page loads. If a variant has more than one segment, test it with each one in Preview as anyone. LimeSpot hides the area for a moment until the right version is ready, so shoppers don't see the original flash first. Everyone else sees your default image. Links in the variant are tracked so the sales they drive show in Analytics.
Edit or delete
To change a variant, click the image on the canvas and then the variant's card.
To remove one variant, click the trash icon on its card (Delete variant) and confirm with Delete.
To remove the whole Smart Image and restore your original image, click Delete Smart Image in the drawer.
Publish after any change.
Smart Images don't have start or end dates. To run a seasonal banner, publish it when the season starts and remove it when it ends.
Troubleshooting
You see | Why | What to do |
"Automatic detection did not complete" | The scan failed or found nothing to personalize. Nothing was saved | Click Add New Variant again, or click a smaller, more specific element |
"Image upload failed: …" | The upload didn't finish | Try again, or choose from Image library |
"Segment already used by another variant" | Two variants target the same segment | Remove the segment from one variant |
"Published variants could not be loaded" | Studio couldn't read the live version, so editing is turned off to protect it | Close the element and open it again |
The variant doesn't show on your live store | It isn't published, or the shopper isn't in the audience | Click Publish, then test with Preview as anyone |
A Smart Block window opens instead | The element you clicked has a lot of text | Click the image itself, or see Personalize content with Smart Blocks |
